Care to Share a Few Snow Stories, Dad?

Monday and Tuesday this week we got quite a bit of snow.  A crazy amount if you ask me.  I like snow, but we had just decided not to buy a snow thrower.  I decided to take a few pictures because the snow levels were amazing.  It makes me wonder what Gunnison was like.

It's a good thing that we had an 18-inch ruler.  This was on the deck; it's our base level, not a drift.  After taking the picture I moved it to another spot and the snow came right up to the 16.

Here's what that much snow looks like on the neighbor's roof.  I didn't get a picture of my own roof because I didn't want to actually take the camera out into the snow.  All of these pictures were taken from under the eaves.

I thought it was funny how you can still see the profile of the stairs in the snow stacked on the stairs.  It's not a great angle, but if you carefully follow the lines you can see that the pile of snow on each step is as high as the second stair above it.  I guess it makes sense because each stair is about 8 inches so 16 inches of snow would be about 2 steps.

Have I convinced you coastal and southern dwellers to move up north?

  1. If you are going to have snow - have SNOW. You did. Reminds me of the ten inch snowstorm in April we had in Wisconsin. I especially like the picture of the snow-covered stairs.

The lure of grandchildren and children is stronger than the aversion to snow.

  2. Having lived in Utah for 25 years I feel like I have had my fair share of snow and will take my mild Las Vegas winters now. Of course I would move back to Utah in a heartbeat if the chance presented itself so I could be closer to family. For now, you enjoy all of that snow and I will enjoy the 60 degree highs that we have forecast for next week.

  3. I wish Fort Collins would get a little of that. We have been cold and windy one day followed by 57 degree weather the next. It's weird.

  4. I'll take the snow over the heat any day! Our former (as of last Sunday) bishop was interviewed as he was shoveling snow a weekend or two ago because we had so much in our neighborhood. I think we got close to 2 feet! Fun stuff. Snow blower helps.

  5. Gunnison was too long ago to remember. I do remember driving down the highway with snow well above the roof of the car on both sides. Of course that was stacked up by the rotary snow plows. I used to enjoy getting out and shoveling the snow when I was young and strong. Probably wouldn't survive now. Have fun.
