Something Scary

So this year, Timothy decided that he wanted to be “something scary” for Halloween. We threw out the various options, and he settled on a vampire. (“I don’t want to be a doctor again,” he told me, “because of all the doctor jokes I got last year.” Ooooookay.) He was quite pleased with the results, and enjoyed being scary.

I chose to be Hermione from “Harry Potter.” (“Hermione’s hair is long,” a 7-year-old girl down the street told me – as if this means I can’t be her – and I explained that I cut my hair earlier this year and it hadn’t had a chance to grow back yet. She was somewhat mollified, but not quite. She’s as precocious as Timothy sometimes.) But I won some movie tickets at work for my costume, made with much effort and collaboration with Janet (Thanks, Janet! And Jared made my wand, too.) This is the first year I’ve had all the elements completed (skirt, sweater, tie, scarf, robe and wand). And this is probably what I’ll be next year too. So if it looks familiar, that’s because it is.

Jared chose to be a victim of a terrorist attack (he ripped up a ruined shirt and jeans some more), but I didn’t get a picture of him. He didn’t really want it documented anyway.

Sarah “chose” to be a ladybug this year. She also chose not to cooperate very much with the pictures. This is also familiar, simply because Timothy did the same thing when he was her age. I guess it runs in the family. I never got “the” shot, but there are several that get across the general gist.

Timothy also designed his pumpkin (and Jared carved it). The jagged mouth is teeth on all sides, again the scary theme comes through. Timothy wanted me to carve “Spooky Cute” on Sarah’s pumpkin, but I just settled for a ghost. I think it turned out okay. I walked around our neighborhood with Timothy and Jared stayed home with Sarah to greet the trick-or-treaters. Sarah liked seeing all the people who came. Jared was helping her walk around during a break and she walked down the stairs and over to the door, where she promptly patted the door several times to say, “Open up, I want to see more people!” Too cute.

  1. What a handsome vampire! Sarah is a cute as a bug ladybug. Sounds like you had a good and fun Halloween. Hope you enjoy your movie - it is a good costume.

  2. That is a great vampire costume. You do get more into the holiday than I do. I also like the pumpkins. Fun.

  3. The costumes look great. You'll end up like me--I've been a clown every year I've dressed up since I made the costume my senior year in high school. It's just too easy to repeat :)
