A Gift to Give

Today, we had a combined lesson in Young Women where we watched the Christmas video that details the birth and life of Jesus Christ. Even though I’ve seen it before, it touched me and filled me with gratitude that I have an elder brother who would do so much for me.

After the video was over, the second councilor in our bishopric stood to give just a few thoughts. He commented, having just seen the video, on all that Christ gave us and then asked us what we could give Christ this year for Christmas. I’m sure there are many things that I could give (be more patient and have more charity for others), but a scripture came to mind. It is the theme this year for the youth. It is in 1 Timothy 4:12:

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

If I can give a gift to Christ, this would be my hope that I can do: be an example of the believers. There are so many things wrong with the world today, but if I follow my heart and do what I know is right – even when it is hard – then I think I can be an example of the believers. And even if all I am is an example to my two kids, then I think I will have succeeded.
